Hair Spray

I. About the Film

　

Hairspray is a 2007 musical romantic comedy film based on the 2002 Broadway musical of the same name, which in turn was based on John Waters' 1988 comedy film of the same name. Adapted from both Waters' 1988 script and Thomas Meehan and Mark O'Donnell's book for the stage musical by screenwriter Leslie Dixon, the 2007 film version of Hairspray was directed and choreographed by Adam Shankman and has an ensemble cast including John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken, Amanda Bynes, James Marsden, Queen Latifah, Brittany Snow, Zac Efron, Elijah Kelley, Allison Janney and Nikki Blonsky. Set in 1962 Baltimore, Maryland, the film follows the "pleasantly plump" teenager Tracy Turnblad as she pursues stardom as a dancer on a local TV show and rallies against racial segregation.

II. Versions of the Film

Musical Ver.

The English    Speaking Society (ESS) of Chuo University gave a performance of an English play on April 22 at C Square of the Tama Campus. It has been giving two performances annually in summer and winter since    it resumed the event in May 2013. The latest one, its fifth performance, featured “Hairspray,” the hit Broadway musical whose story was set in Baltimore, Maryland, in the 1960s. Hakumon Herald    interviewed three ESS members after the performance. They are Ryuya Yamaguchi, a third grader of the Faculty of Commerce and the chief of the club’s Drama Section, Kako Fujita, a second grader of    the Faculty of Economics, and Ikki Asai, a second grader of the Faculty of Policy Studies. Both Fujita and Asai played the leading roles in the play.

 

It's also stage-ized by these other ones by all the countries. It can be said that it's a popular work at all over the world from this thing.

III. About the Lead Actor

 

Nikki Blonsky

I saw a stage in Broadway "hair spray" at 15 years old and had an audition of the main character Tracy role, by the reason that they're too young, disqualification. It's trained in a play and a musical at the Great neck South high school designated as a gourami foundation. I also appeared on a stage at school much. I worked part-time at a cold stone creamery in an ice cream shop after that, but audition recruitment of and a movie edition "hair spray" was seen and re-tried, and made it 17 years old admirably from the inside of 1000 recruited applicants as "PO which can sing and dance, teen" and was chosen by the lead. I was nominated for Golden Globe Prize star actress prize (musical comedy section) by this work and won an actress prize of the young people by a broadcast movie critic society prize.

 

 Tracy who lives in American Baltimore where the trend of the discrimination against blacks is still left deeply in 1962 is the large girl who likes a dance and dressing up very much. A dream was the artless way the figure which appears on a popular dance TV program "corny Collins show" in a teen and dances with attracted popular dancer and link doesn't mind.Tracy who heard recruit's audition by the member's indefinite leave of the program on some days thinks as a chance in life and that wants you to make them receive, for my parents, please. Mother Edna says the figure, and Tracy worries that it may be damaged and opposes. But I'm encouraged "Because it's big, become big." and challenge an audition from Wilbur of a father. A result is lost one-sidedly by the reason that I'm overweight from producer's VERUMA of a program. Tracy late for an audition on the day can make them do working overtime. When they stayed behind and opposed a department, black people's students such as Sea Wead were dancing there. The link I ply in a special class in the same high school witnesses Tracy who will open up to everyone and do dance steps of learned R&B immediately. "You can go out to a program." and, Tracy invites to dance party of president corny Collins sponsorship of a program, and is ecstatic. The dance by which Tracy who appeared together learned best friend's penny from Sea Weed is announced to the dance party by which it was invited to a link. A party meeting place including a vocal link, quickly, heating up. A dream of a program appearance is liked by corny of the organizer and comes true at last by scouting from corny.

IV. My Reaction

A. Reaction Point - Theme

• 定義  It seems to be the fact that a girl just runs after a dream, but it's the movie caricaturing a discrimination problem.
• 例  Discrimination against blacks and discrimination by the appearance
• 略  Then a popular TV program in the work" corny Collins show" becomes the routine which makes a black people appear on only Black Day of once a week. How to be handled a black people in the work also is cruel compared with a Caucasian and is a terrible one. The classroom where main character Tracy receives supplementary lessons was also full of black people. But people's way of thinking around is also changing with a friendly relation with Tracy's black people and black Day abolition counteragitation. It can be said that the discrimination against blacks left persistently is being caricatured from such thing.

B. Reaction Point - Charactor

• 定義 The main character who isn't perfect makes us feel this movie closer.
• 例  She's overweight. Her mother is overweight equally, too
• 略  2 persons with the same complex, but how to catch to a complex is big and different. A way of thinking of main character Tracy is moving many people with the inferiority complex of the world deeply with the courage and excitement.

• 例 Much dance music is used for the one of this work.
• 略 A dance is a work of a base, so it's possible to see without getting tired. At the same time, can't much person's support be called an accessible work? Much music gives vigor to the person who sees.

 

D. My General Opinion

I learned the strength which is seeing this movie, doesn't give up living brightly positively and is confronting a matter.
You also like to be seeing and to be funny because it's a musical style in spite of a strong movie of a message. All over the world, I think the movie which should be loved from many people.
 

My Featured Novel

★THE LITTLE PRINCE★
 

I. About the Novel

This story is a fantasy story for the adult who has forgot child's heart so that I may have that with the beginning of a work "Everyone was a child at the beginning for an adult. (Without forgetting the thing, but how much doesn't the adult who is here also have.)"

A dialogue with a fox is an important situation of this work. It's different from other ones, and why can you think of something to have that dearly? "The relationship becomes" good for a fox to the asteroid which was a target of its affection and Oji where I lose a confidence to a rose and worry, if, through whether it's what's thing, friendship, besides, it'll be told about affection (affection by the loving meaning, not a humanity). It's important on the work to which I say "Anything important isn't visible.", a word, it's also this situation to appear. This, a word, because that a desert looks beautiful also appears in the back and "hides a well its somewhere", moreover an idea based connects with the way of thinking to which I say "Because a prince also lives with a rose now its somewhere for a night sky's looking beautiful."

All of the novella's simple but elegant watercolor illustration, which were integral to the story, were painted by Saint-Exupéry. He had studied architecture as a young adult but nevertheless could not be considered an artist — which he self-mockingly alluded to in the novella's introduction. Several of his illustrations were painted on the wrong side of the delicate onion skin paper that he used, his medium of choice.As with some of his draft manuscripts, he occasionally gave away preliminary sketches to close friends and colleagues; others were even recovered as crumpled balls from the floors in the cockpits he flew. Two or three original Little Prince drawings were reported in the collections of New York artist, sculptor and experimental filmmaker Joseph Cornell. One rare original Little Prince watercolour would be mysteriously sold at a second-hand book fair in Japan in 1994, and subsequently authenticated in 2007.

II. Versions of the Novel in the Mass Media

1 Movie Ver.(1974 America)

 

The movie by which genius Stanley of a musical movie and Donen director made the homonymous juvenile literature of St. Exupery a musical movie. Such as a story is faithful to an original work and takes the form of an orthodox musical movie, but taking the novel dance of Bob Fosse who appears done in the work in, the old and the new different from former movie are in a movie with the shape that the types clash, too, I have an influence on Michael Jackson, but I say that a work isn't so highly regarded to Donen's work.

2 Theater animation

All 39 accounts (by this broadcast, until the 35th talk). Matsuno taki which was a 5th grader of elementary school at a theatrical group of children post (the "Tatsuya" name by which those days is also a real name) serves as the prince role of the main character then, and it'll be Matsuno's effective radio actor debut work. It was rebroadcast several times and it was also exported to the United States (for an American edition, all 26 accounts). There are a lot of episodes of the animation original I don't have in an original work. The 3rd time excellent movie prize winning a prize for Agency for Cultural Affairs televisions for children in fiscal year 1978. Kikkoman is independent for an offer 1 company. It was rebroadcast from 18:30 on Tuesday in a satellite animation theater of BS2 in 1998.

III. About the Author

St. Antoine Mary Jan Baptiste Roger DO Exupery (Antoine Marie Jean-Baptiste Roger, comte de Saint-Exupery and June 29, 1900- July 31, 1944) is French author and pilot. I participated in flight route pioneering between Europe - South America as a pilot for mail transportation. You enjoy by a nickname of "St. texture" from a reader.

Hayao Miyazaki drew flying boat taking in 1920 's is a long regular reader of St. Exupery by a movie "red pig".

IV. My Reaction

A. Reaction Point - Setting

• 定義-“Six years ago,” although the current date is never specified.The Sahara Desert and outer space.
• 例-"I" of a pilot make a force landing on the Sahara. Everyone stay within 1000 miles of entourage who cry only water of week in one lot, please, well, "I" who spent worrying night by wax loneliness meet 1 boy on the next day. While speaking, "I" know that a boy is the prince from an asteroid who has that.
• 略-"It's near our world but different entirely." it's such setting.

B. Reaction Point - Point of view

• 定義-The narrator gives a first-person account, although he spends large portions of the story recounting the little prince’s own story of his travels.
• 例-There is comment including "clothes of a fantasy are worn, possibility that writing was tried for quite political charge" about this note. This opinion seems compatible with the opinion by which we assume "It's a fantasy.", the form for which "fantasy opinion" is criticized offensively, it isn't taken, seem and seem. But you still feel strong hostility from a fantasy party.

D. My General Opinion

Though it's famous,I felt it very difficult.Lots of jokes were there therefore I had to wade them though first,but I gradually understood later how interesting it is.
The most impressing phrase to me in this story was "What is essential is invisible to the eye".I agreed to it all the more because love, bond n dream featured in the story are all surely invisible but important.The more I read, the more I feel it important. I thought this is really a great work.
